1 COR 1:1-3
"1 "Paul,
called as an apostle of Jesus Christ
by the will of God,
and Sosthenes our brother,

To the church of God
which is at Corinth,
to those who have been sanctified
in Christ Jesus,
saints by calling,
with all who in every place
call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
their Lord and ours:

Grace to you and peace
from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ."

READING THROUGH 1 CORINTHIANS 1:4-8

* Why does Paul thank God for the believers in Corinth?
* What is the evidence that God's grace is given believers of Jesus Christ?
* How are we believers enriched in Christ?
* What is Jesus' testimony and how is it confirmed in believers?
* In what way are you not lacking any gift?
* What do we eagerly await?
* Who will confirm us to the end with Christ?

1 COR 1:4-8
"I thank my God always concerning you
for the grace of God
which was given you in Christ Jesus,
that in everything
you were enriched in Him,
in all speech and all knowledge,
even as the testimony concerning Christ
was confirmed in you,
so that you are not lacking
in any gift,
awaiting eagerly the revelation
of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who will also confirm you to the end,
blameless in the day
of our Lord Jesus Christ."

READING THROUGH 1 CORINTHIANS 1:26-29

* The message "Christ crucified"
has an appeal to other despised
people who have faith,
much more than to admired people
who rely on their wisdom,
strength, or good heredity.

1 CORINTHIANS 1:26-29
" For consider your calling, brethren,
that there were not many wise
according to the flesh,
not many mighty,
not many noble;
but God has chosen
the foolish things of the world
to shame the wise,
and God has chosen
the weak things of the world
to shame the things which are strong,
and the base things of the world
and the despised God has chosen,
the things that are not,
so that He may nullify the things that are,
so that no man may boast before God."

READING THROUGH 1 CORINTHIANS 1:28-31

* The message "Christ crucified"
is quickly followed by "God chose".
As in creation, God chose to make something from nothing.
This is God's way.
Scripture says God, not you or I,
is the reason we have a
relationship with Christ Jesus.

1 CORINTHIANS 1:28-31
"God chose what is low
and despised in the world,
what is regarded as nothing,
to set aside
what is regarded as something,
so that no one can boast in his presence.
He is the reason you have
a relationship with Christ Jesus,
who became for us
wisdom from God,
and righteousness
and sanctification
and redemption,
so that, as it is written,
'Let the one who boasts,
boast in the Lord.' (Jer 9:24)
