Chapter 5: Preparing Wealth in Kingdom Economics

Lessons about Preparation
(Luke 12:41-48, Matthew 25)
Once you begin to know and learn from Jesus,
there are ways other than finances to prepare
to follow and serve Jesus.
Then he said to them all,
“If any want to become my followers,
let them deny themselves
and take up their cross daily
and follow me. (Luke 9:23)
But this study focuses on building up
spiritual riches in Kingdom Economics.

WILL YOU PREPARE TO SERVE JESUS?
HOW?

* PREPARED SERVANTS

Some of Jesus' disciples will be as
faithful and wise steward servants.
(See Luke 12:41-44)

* UNPREPARED SERVANTS

Some of Jesus' disciples will be unfaithful.
To whom much is given, much is required.
(See Luke 12:45-48)

* FAITHFUL STEWARDS PREPARE

You too, be ready; for the Son of Man
is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”
Peter said, “Lord, are You addressing this
parable to us, or to everyone else as well?”
And the Lord said,
“Who then is the faithful and sensible steward,
whom his master will put in charge of his servants,
to give them their rations at the proper time?
Blessed is that slave whom his master finds
so doing when he comes. Truly I say to you
that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
(Luke 12:40-44)

* BE ALERT AND READY

“Therefore be on the alert,
for you do not know which day
your Lord is coming. But be sure of this,
that if the head of the house
had known at what time of the night
the thief was coming, he would have been
on the alert and would not have allowed
his house to be broken into.
For this reason you also must be ready;
for the Son of Man is coming at an hour
when you do not think He will.
(Matt 24:42-44 and Luke 12:40-44)

Preparations parable

* The Ten Virgins Matthew 25:1-13

The Talents

* Matthew 25:14-30

TOO MUCH PREPARATION, JESUS said.
"ONE THING IS NECESSARY, MARTHA"

* MARTHA WANTED HELP

Martha prepared to serve the Lord,
and (like the man asking Jesus to get
his brother to share his inheritance)
wanted Jesus to tell Mary to help her.
Mary irritated Martha, but Jesus didn't care.
(Luke 12:13-15; Luke 10:40)

* MARTHA PREPARED GLADLY
Jesus taught Martha to prepare
and serve Him with a meal,
doing it gladly and cheerfully,
and without Mary's help.
(Ps 100:2) (Luke 10:40-42)

GET READY:
MIND, HEART, and SOUL

* GET READY, GET SET

"But if that slave says in his heart,
‘My master will be a long time in coming,’
and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women,
and to eat and drink and get drunk;
the master of that slave will come
on a day when he does not expect him
and at an hour he does not know,
and will cut him in pieces,
and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
And that slave who knew his master’s will
and did not get ready or act in accord with his will,
will receive many lashes,
but the one who did not know it,
and committed deeds worthy of a flogging,
will receive but few.
From everyone who has been given much,
much will be required;
and to whom they entrusted much, of him
they will ask all the more." (Luke 12:45-48)

* READY - OR NOT

But He said to him,
“A man was giving a big dinner,
and he invited many;
and at the dinner hour
he sent his slave to say to those
who had been invited, ‘Come;
for everything is ready now.’

But they all alike began to make excuses.
The first one said to him,
‘I have bought a piece of land and
I need to go out and look at it;
please consider me excused.’
(Luke 14:16-18, to Lk 14:24)

DON'T WAIT, DON'T PUT OFF PREPARING

* The Living and the dead

For the living know they will die;
but the dead do not know anything,
nor have they any longer a reward
for their memory is forgotten.
(Eccl 9:5)

* The Dead don't praise God

The dead do not praise the LORD,
nor do any who go down into silence.
(Psalm 115:17)

* "Another of his disciples said to him,
'Lord, first let me go and bury my father.'
But Jesus said to him, 'Follow me,
and let the dead bury their own dead.'” (Matt 8:21-22)
