Saul's enemy, the Philistines, befriends Saul's enemy, David
The Philistines - Success or Failure? (1Sam27-31)

Fearing Saul, David took his 2 wives and gradually amassed 600 mighty men from various tribes of Israel to live with the Philistines, Saul's enemies. Achish, son of the Philistine king of Gath, let them live at Ziglag.

In Achish's service, David and his men made vicious raids on inhabitants of the land - the Geshurites, Girzites, and Amalekites - taking no one alive.

Achish required David and his men to join the Philistine armies for war against Israel as his bodyguard.

Achish vouched for David and his men as the Philistines prepared to go to war against Saul, but once there the Philistine lords were suspicious of David fighting with them against Israel. They were sent back to Ziklag.

It took 3 days to return. David and his men found Ziklag had been burned down and its residents, their wives and children, taken prisoners by the Amalekites. His men were furious at him. He inquired of the Lord what to do.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the battle with the Philistines, Saul had his future told at Endor
